RIAT 17 Pt.-4 The Midnight Hawks

By | 26th July 2017

Pt.-4. In this part we look at a rare appearance outside of Finland of their national display team at this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo 17.
The Finnish Air Force’s national aerobatic team The Midnight Hawks fly four BAe Hawk Mk.51 Trainers with a spare on stand by. Operated by Havittajalentolaivue 41,the air arm’s fighter training school, this team celebrates it’s 20th Anniversary of its establishment. This year the team have received a special blue-and-white livery  for the 2017 display season in celebration of Finland’s 100 years of independence.
The last time  the team performed in the uk  for RIAT was back in 2004,nice to see them return. The performance of the team was a great show of formation flying in conditions that were not in their favour with added smoke tanks  on the jets, the smoke trails  made fantastic patterns in the surrounding Fairford skies.
Lets hope that the team can return back  sooner rather then later as I found  this team were a fantastic contribution to the flying programme.
