On the weekend of,6th-8th April, the annual RSPB Members weekend took place at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham.
The RSPB Weekend gave the opportunity for Members and staff alike to share the passion for Nature.
The weekend started on the Friday with one of Seven excursions to a wide range of local places, such as Rutland Water, Middleton Lakes and our latest project, Sherwood Forest. The Friday evening’s entertainment was a Nature Themed Quiz, where the members competed against a Staff based team, this was based on the TV game, The Chase. In the end after a tie brake the staff based team won and was presented with the Golden Goose Award.
The weekend was packed with opportunities to learn and be inspired with the work that the RSPB are doing for Nature with workshops, lectures, as well as a photographic walk around Wollaston Park Lake, to take in the nature that is provided. As part of the group who helped with the Photographic walk around it was nice to help the members who took part in the walk by giving some tips and hints to help them achieve there goal. The Saturday evenings presentation was provide by Doug Allen, who gave a presentation of his camera skills as a wildlife camera man on the TV program, Planet Earth and Blue Planet if that doesn’t give you any inspiration nothing will, Doug also did a book signing session later on in the evening.
The Sunday program of events was very much like Saturday with more inspiring workshops and lectures, and then it was a good hearty lunch before the RSPB Members Weekend came to a close, at 1500 hrs., then it was a wave goodbye to the members that attended. It was all hands to the pump to pack up the exhibition before patting our selves on the back and saying what a good job we have done, then we all headed home for a much deserved rest.
